Samantha’s 50th Birthday challenge for Dad

Samantha Mitchell from Camborne in Cornwall has signed up to the Bournemouth half marathon in October in memory of her Dad who passed away five years ago after a stroke. Samantha who turns 50 this year wanted to do something to celebrate her birthday and raise money for the Stroke Association.

Samantha who runs regularly said “My family has seen the impact of stroke first hand, my Dad had a stroke and it changed his whole life.He went from being a strong independent man to being unable to walk unaided and finding it hard to communicate. My dad loved to dance and play badminton with my mum. After his stroke none of this was possible. I wanted to raise funds to help other stroke survivors and their families.”

The half marathon is part of the Bournemouth and Poole festival that takes place over the weekend of Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October 2015. The festival will take advantage of Bournemouth and Poole’s Promenade and Piers and will provide a scenic flat route for runners. The weekend is also a runner’s paradise; people can run 5K, 10K and Junior Races in addition to a Half Marathon and Full Marathon.

If you would like to run at the Bournemouth festival please get in touch with claire.haines@stroke.org.uk or call us on 0117 911 5470.

Samantha has set up a just giving page for people to sponsor her, if you would like to make a donation please visit, www.justgiving.com/sam-mitchell16
