Bishop Johan: “I feel extremely happy and humble”

“I feel extremely happy and humble,” says Johan Tyrberg who was today ordained as Bishop of Lund Diocese. The ordination service in Uppsala Cathedral was led by Archbishop Antje Jackelén in the presence of the Church of Sweden’s bishops and foreign guests.

In her sermon the Archbishop directed her words at Johan Tyrberg and also linked them to his motto, Salt of the Earth:
You will be a bishop in a time during which the good expectations of the Church are numerous and strong. Many who hesitate to describe themselves as Christians, call for the voice of the Church. Those who irritably ask, “Why doesn’t the Church say or do anything?” are expressing that there is a need for more salt.
More salt is required to support the life of the world! This summer, which we will surely remember for the painful contrast between extremely generous warm sunshine and the icy chill of so many dark news stories, has made this very clear. Salt that supports life is needed.

“I feel extremely happy and humble to become Bishop of Lund Diocese. I am delighted that our foreign guests attended; it shows that we are part of a church that has a worldwide presence. After all the celebrations I am looking forward to my everyday work as a bishop in our Church.

RECEPTION IN LUND
Lund Diocese’s reception for the new bishop will take place in a service in Lund Cathedral at 15:00 on Saturday 30 August. After the service refreshments will be served in Domkyrkoforum, the Cathedral Forum visitor centre.
