Press release —
The Church of Sweden at the Paralympics
During the Paralympics, 29 August – 9 September, the Church of Sweden in London will run a café and provide mobile teams in conjunction with the Games. The Seamen's Church will be the hub of the activities.
The Church of Sweden will provide mobile teams at the arenas where the sports events will be held. Their main aim is to meet Swedes and help them to find their way around from place to place. Counselling will also be available if people experience unpleasant incidents. The mobile teams were appreciated during the Olympic Games earlier this summer.
“We are here to support Swedish participants, their friends and family, and spectators,” says Camilla Persson, project manager of the Church of Sweden's activities during the Paralympics.
Café Svensson in the Seamen's Church is open daily 10:00–22:30 and sells refreshments, sweets and meals. You can also follow the Paralympics on a large TV screen and read Swedish newspapers. Morning and evening prayers will be held daily.
A special Paralympics service – Courage and Christianity – will be held in St Paul’s Cathedral at 18:00 on 26 August.
Art exhibition
During the Paralympics, an exhibition titled Rörelse [Movement] by artists with intellectual or neuropsychiatric disabilities will also be shown in the Seamen's Church. The exhibition will be open daily throughout the duration of the Paralympics. For opening hours, see www.svenskakyrkan.se/london2012
During the Paralympics, the Church of Sweden has special cooperation with the Swedish Sports Organization for the Disabled and The Swedish Paralympic Committee, which are renting large parts of the hostel belonging to the Seamen's Church.
