40 Years of Castlevania: A Legacy Passed from One Generation to the Next

WINDSOR, UNITED KINGDOM – September 25, 2026 – Konami Digital Entertainment, B.V. (KONAMI) today celebrates the 40th anniversary of the “Castlevania” series. To commemorate this milestone, the original Castlevania is now available for free on the App Store and Google Play for a limited time as well as a sale of up to 80% for “Castlevania” series titles on multiple platforms today. Other announcements include the release of official soundtracks coming to streaming platforms, the “Castlevania 40th “An Anniversary Orchestral Concert” and merchandise lineup.
The original Castlevania released in 1993 for the Famicom and is now available for free on the App Store and Google Play for a limited-time until October 24, 2026. The first entry in the series introduced vampire hunter Simon Belmont and his battle against Dracula within his infamous castle. Fans can venture on a journey of gothic horror, challenging action and iconic music that has captivated multiple generations.

Additionally, fans of the iconic soundtracks from the series can experience it in person with a special Castlevania orchestral concert, “Castlevania 40th Anniversary An Orchestral Concert”, scheduled for Spring 2027 for London, Tokyo and Los Angeles. Those looking to experience digitally can listen to music from Castlevania Black & Red on streaming platforms on September 26.
Continuing on the legacy with the latest entry in the series, Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse arrives October 15 for PlayStation® 5, XBOX Series X|S, XBOX on PC, Steam®, and Nintendo Switch™. The story unfolds in Paris, France, in 1499—23 years after the events of the popular series entry Castlevania III. Rose Belmont, daughter of the Dracula-slaying hero Trevor Belmont, sets out to defeat monsters whilst exploring the burning streets of Paris and Dracula’s castle, utilizing a variety of weapons and skills, including the sacred whip ‘Vampire Killer’.
