December 9th, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom: Red Rover Interactive, an independent development studio featuring industry veterans from Funcom and Bohemia Interactive, will launch their next major playtest this week for the upcoming player-driven survival PvP shooter Enginefall. From December 12th - 16th, players can experience intense, fast-paced shootouts on post-apocalyptic trains, cranked up to eleven thanks to the reduction of team sizes from 5 to 3 players.

Enginefall is a player-driven crafting shooter that takes place on always-moving colossal trains roaming a devastated, post-apocalyptic world. Players become Freerailers, lowly scavengers that have to scheme, loot and fight their way through loot-filled train cars all the way to the front to face and topple the conductor.

Freerailers can also acquire a Dagger Train, a mobile home on the rails that can be customised and upgraded. The December playtest will be bringing new cosmetics to customise players’ trains, from plush furniture and holiday decorations to the skulls of their fallen foes.

At launch, Scavengers seeking strength in numbers will also be able to set up their very own Marauder Trains, alliance-specific machines of death that groups of players can use to plan their next big score. Marauder Trains can also be raided by rival alliances, placing further importance on setting up defenses to protect the loot players amass.

The December playtest will feature the latest build of the game, showcasing a blend of new features and optimisations to existing gameplay components. The most notable change introduces three-player teams down from five, enabling closer-knit teamwork and fostering stronger alliances when partnering with other teams. The playtest will also feature an improved tutorial system to streamline the introduction part of the game.

Key new features available in the December update include:

  • 3-Player Teams - Fewer players per team equals more opportunities for betrayal. Red Rover are introducing smaller teams to shake up gameplay and wreak even more chaos as lobbies of up to 75 players collide on their way to the Conductor Car.

  • Expanded Dagger Train Cosmetics - Want to spruce up your personal mobile home? Dagger Train cosmetics are here to revamp your personal space while you prepare for your next raid of the Titan Train.
  • New Player Tutorial & UI Overhaul- This build's streamlined tutorial system makes learning the game easier than ever, ideal for newcomers. Additionally, the game’s UI has received a visual overhaul to maximise immersion and on-screen information at any given time.

Players can sign up to the playtest on Steam to help shape the development of the up-and-coming game before its release next year. The playtest for Enginefall will be available to join from December 12th - 16th.

Enginefall will be releasing in 2026 on Steam. For more information, visit enginefall.com or follow the game on Discord, TikTok, Instagram, and X (Twitter) to stay up to speed with the latest updates.
