UM Solar wins 7th National Championship

UM solar team from University of Michigan in July 2012 won their 7th National Championship and 4th consecutive victory. The team competed with their TeXtreme® featured car Quantum which was also used in the latest World Solar Challenge (WSC) in Australia.

The American Solar Challenge is an annual race that started 1990. The University of Michigan started their solar enterprise the year before, 1989, and is located in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA. The 2012 race covered 1650 miles and went on for eight days with a final time for the race just under 45 hours.

Quantum was designed, built, and raced by students. Oxeon has a goal to help young engineers to learn more about new innovative materials such as TeXtreme® and to support to victories like this. The University of Michigan team is now preparing the next generation’s solar car that will compete in WSC 2013.

The team uses TeXtreme® Spread Tow Fabrics to reduce weight and increase stiffness.
