Career profile inventory (CPI)

The CPI is a brief self-scored online career interest instrument suitable for employees at all levels. This theory-based and validated tool gives a complete profile of an employee’s career stage, interests, motivational anchors, job / career path preferences and political style. The CPI is composed of 40 questions measuring the respondent’s current situation, compared to the way he or she would like it to be. Administration takes approximately 20-30 minutes and the feedback results are automatically available online. The comprehensive summary feedback report compares and contrasts current to ideal preferences in career stage, path preference and political style orientation. By analysing the ‘gaps’ you can quickly identify the causes of employee satisfaction and use this to increase productivity and retention and reduce turnover. The CPI is an ideal assessment tool for executive and management coaching, career counselling, outplacement, employee development, performance evaluation, succession planning, supervisory training and management development programmes. The online report also includes an action plan to support career and professional development goals, as well as professional development resources and linked websites.

Enneagram

The Enneagram is an extraordinary framework for understanding yourself, your colleagues and the ‘personality’ of your team or organisation as a whole. Each type has its own way of relating to others, its own set of perceptions and preoccupations, its own values and approaches to life. Each relates to others in different but understandable ways. There are nine different personality types:

  1. Reformers
    • Principled, purposeful, self-controlled and perfectionistic
    • Dislike sloppiness and error, attracted to order and high standards for self and others
  2. Mentors
    • Caring, generous, people-pleasing and intrusive
    • Dislike solitude and impersonal dealings, attracted to service and making personal connections
  3. Achievers
    • Adaptable, self-developing, efficient and image-conscious
    • Dislike ineffectiveness and lack of ambition, attracted to success and recognition
  4. Designers
    • Intuitive, expressive, individualistic and temperamental
    • Dislike uniformity and regulation, attracted to creativity and putting their personal mark on things
  5. Investigators
    • Perceptive, innovative, secretive and detached
    • Dislike intrusions on their time and space, attracted to depth and learning
  6. Trouble-shooters
    • Committed, responsible, anxious and suspicious
    • Dislike unpredictability and rapid change, attracted to clear structures and foresight
  7. Enthusiasts
    • Spontaneous, versatile, talkative and scattered
    • Dislike limitations and routines, attracted to new possibilities and excitement
  8. Challengers
    • Self-confident, decisive, wilful and confrontational
    • Dislike indecisiveness and indirectness, attracted to strength and strategic action
  9. Peacemakers
    • Calm, reassuring, agreeable and complacent
    • Dislike tension and conflict, attracted to harmony and stability

This system identifies the dynamics of personality with startling clarity, making applications precise and useful. The graphic representational system used to explain enneagram types makes it almost intuitive and therefore particularly useful for those wishing to understand how other people, outside their immediate teams, ‘tick’ – in other words, it is ideal for sales people. To take an abbreviated 10-minute version of the online questionnaire, click here, but please read the following note first:

The Riso-Hudson Enneagram Type Indicator (RHETI) Sampler’s 36 questions are only a part of the full, scientifically validated 144-question Riso-Hudson Enneagram Type Indicator (RHETI, Version 2.5).

Short personality quizzes such as the RHETI Sampler cannot guarantee that your basic personality type will be indicated, although your type will most likely be one of the top three scores in this free quiz.

We recommend that you read the type descriptions at the end of this test, and in the Riso-Hudson Enneagram books, to help you identify your basic personality type. If you would like to take the full 144-item RHETI questionnaire, it is available for $10 at the Enneagram Institute’s web site.

The enneagram is an integral part of the ‘results coaching in sixty seconds’ methodology, which underpins our coaching programmes (please click here for details). We would be happy to run a workshop for you, explaining how best to use the enneagram for increased personal effectiveness and team performance.

Facet5

This is a ‘Big 5′ factor personality model, which allows managers to understand how people differ in their behaviour, motivation, attitudes and aspirations. It is based on recent developments in personality theory and management development and yet is simple and practical to use. Five factors are now widely accepted as the fundamental building blocks of personality. These ‘Big 5′ have consistently emerged from research around the world as the irreducible minimum needed to give a comprehensive description of a person’s personality. Facet5 measures these five factors precisely and quickly to give the most accurate and easily applied portrait of individual differences in behaviour. Facet5 also allows a detailed breakdown of these five factors into 13 sub-factors (facets) to explore subtleties of behaviour at an individual level. Facet5 was designed in response to requests from many organisations for an instrument which combined: modern design, construction and appearance; ease and flexibility of use; reasonable cost; and integration with human resource management systems. Facet5’s theoretical and psychometric integrity is comparable with or superior to other mainstream, but now dated, personality questionnaires. Facet5 works at all levels from individual assessment through selection, recruitment and team integration. Facet5 can even be extended to understand culture and values at a team or corporate level. Facet5 uses a web-based questionnaire to capture information; people respond to an e-mailed invitation and are taken directly to the Facet5 website. Most people can complete a Facet5 questionnaire in around 17 minutes. Facet5 data is processed instantly and is immediately available for review by authorised users, with reports shown on screen or produced as a fully formatted PDF for printing or emailing. To maintain its professional credibility and to ensure that it continues to develop in line with practical experience and current theory, Facet5 is only available via accredited organisations. For further information about Facet5 please click here to download a factsheet or give us a call.

MBTI®

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® instrument provides a valid and reliable tool for assessing personality type. The most popular and well-established of all personality inventories (over 2 million people a year are assessed with it), it was first published in 1962 and has been constantly refined ever since. The instrument measures personality preference on four scales: Extraversion /Introversion (E – I), Sensing / Intuition (S – N), Thinking / Feeling (T – F) and Judgment / Perception (J – P). Participants are given one of 16 four-letter acronyms, such as ESTJ or INFP, indicating what their preference is. These are ‘best-fit’ types, a term referring to the ethical code that facilitators are required to follow. It states that the person taking the indicator is always the best judge of what their preferences are and the indicator alone should never be used to make this decision. For this reason, authorised use of the instrument requires that the results are discussed on a one-to-one basis with an accredited facilitator. See theofficial site for further details – and then call us to discuss how we would run an MBTI® workshop for you.

Negotiation and influencing profile (NIP)

This an innovative, on-line, needs-based profiling system that accurately assesses the negotiation, influencing and conflict management abilities of respondents through 20 key competencies as perceived by themselves. Administration is easy. Respondents are emailed a user name and password that enables them in their own time to access their profile, which indicates the level of negotiation and influencing capability they hold and what competencies they need to develop to enhance their negotiation and influencing capability. Pooling responses means that the organisation can determine how the negotiation and influencing competencies of individuals and teams compare (either within the organisation or externally), whether a potential new team member has the negotiation and influencing capability required and how effective training has been in improving capabilities.

Strength Deployment Inventory® (SDI)

The SDI® is a paper-based, self-scoring, motivational assessment tool and the cornerstone of relationship awareness theory. Developed in the US in the 1970s and used extensively throughout Europe since 1982, it measures an individual’s ‘motivational value system’ both when things are going well and when the person faces conflict or opposition. It doesn’t list behavioural types and is not meant as a selection tool, but it can be used for a wide variety of other purposes, such as building awareness of self and others, leadership development, team building and conflict management. As with the MBTI® instrument, individuals are best introduced to the SDI® through a facilitated workshop run by an accredited expert trainer. If you are interested in this, please see the official site for further details – and then call us to discuss how we would run an SDI® workshop for you.

ThinkSmart® – Developing the thinking performer

This innovative on-line tool has been developed to help people understand the different ways in which we think. It measures individual preference levels for ten different styles of thinking, identifying people’s cognitive strengths and potential development areas. The ten styles are sub-divided into a Sensory Focus, People Focus and Task Focus. ThinkSmart® is ideal for use at supervisory and junior management levels or as an introduction for higher management levels to the understanding of how thinking preferences affect behaviour, management, working styles and performance. Reports can be downloaded ahead of coaching, mentoring or management development sessions and workshops, to provide pre- and post-course support.

CustomView 360

For organisations looking for a complete customised approach, CV360 takes any existing competencies and questions and converts them into a web-based questionnaire, administration system and feedback reporting system all branded for the client. The questionnaire can be used as a stand-alone tool to measure current capability or to inform a personal development plan at the beginning of a development programme and then again towards the end of the programme, to measure improvement in observable behaviour.

Emotional IntelligenceView360

Designed for employees at all levels, this tool is based on recent conceptual models of emotional intelligence and provides the insight required to enhance relationship management skills and provides feedback on interpersonal, social, and communication competencies. EIView360 is an on-line tool which assesses 17 key competencies in the areas of self-management, relationship management and communication. The comprehensive feedback report is designed to enhance both self-awareness and relationship management skills. EIView360 is suitable for coaching, leadership and professional development programmes. It was developed by Dr Kenneth M Nowack, a licensed psychologist and researcher in the area of 360-degree feedback, emotional intelligence and occupational health. Dr Nowack is a member of Daniel Goleman’s Consortium for Research on Emotional Intelligence in Organisations (Daniel Goleman being the originator of the EI theory and author of the best-selling books Emotional Intelligence and Working with Emotional Intelligence).

Maximum Performance 360

This has been specifically designed to help managers develop their capability in managing and driving the performance of the people they manage to outstanding levels. MP360 is a web-based questionnaire, administration and feedback reporting system which can be used to help managers gather 360º feedback from nominated peers, managers and team members on key competencies that help them to drive and manage performance. It assesses 14 key competencies in the areas of building effective relationships, developing a dynamic management style, motivating and influencing, coaching and developing and holding people accountable. The evaluation process takes approximately 20-30 minutes for respondents to complete, with their answers being aggregated with those of the other respondents to produce a report to be viewed and studied by the participant (preferably ahead of a one-to-one de-briefing session with an approved consultant). The questionnaire can be used as a stand-alone tool to measure current capability or to inform a personal development plan at the beginning of a development programme and then again towards the end of the programme, to measure improvement in observable behaviour.   For further information about any of these tools, or advice on when and how to use them, please don’t hesitate to call us – we’re here to help!
