#sundayrunday – Meet Gregg, one of our Virgin Money London Marathon Runners

Name: Gregg Thompson

Age: 35

From: Essex

Can you tell us a little about why you have chosen to run the London Marathon for The Sick Children’s Trust?

We were supported by Rainbow House looked when my son George was very sick and fighting for his life; we could be by his side throughout it all. We were never more than 100 yards from his bedside and we could get much needed rest and meals during those anxious days, which helped us to be there for him 100%.

What would you tell others about The Sick Children’s Trust?

This wonderful organisation has ten ‘Homes from Home’ up and down the country, which are all equipped with a kitchen, living room and other utilities. It only costs £28 a night to sponsor a room, something priceless to those in need.

Have you ever done a marathon before?

In 2007 my wife and I challenged ourselves to run the marathon and then in 2011 I did the London Marathon for The Sick Children’s Trust – I really struggled the second time! We had moved house the week before and didn’t train as much as I should have,

How is your training going at the moment?

At the moment I’m finding it particularly challenging juggling training with work and family life. I go either first thing in the morning, when kids are still in bed or late at night! I’m running every Tuesday and Thursday then do a long run on Saturday – but am starting to step it up a bit more.

How much are you hoping to fundraise?

In 2011, I ran the London Marathon and raised over £6,000 and am hoping to raise a similar amount this year. And to help reach my target, a week later I will be doing the South West Tough Mudder and following that the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 – so any support would be greatly appreciated!

Good luck Gregg!
