Children's charity named as beneficiary of CIBC Miracle Day
The Sick Children’s Trust is delighted to be selected as one of three charities who will benefit from the support of the CIBC Children’s Foundation during 2014.
The Sick Children’s Trust provides free, high-quality accommodation, as well as emotional and practical support, for families with seriously ill children in hospital. The charity relies entirely on voluntary income to keep its nine ‘Homes from Home’ across the UK open 365 days a year.
The CIBC Children's Foundation supports children's charities around the world. In London, CIBC employees undertake an array of fundraising activities throughout the year which culminate on the CIBC Miracle Day, held the first Wednesday in December. On this day, CIBC’s research, sales and trading employees donate their fees and commissions from the trading day to chosen U.K. charities.
The charity has three London houses located at Great Ormond Street Hospital and The Royal London Hospital. These houses support over 1,000 families with children receiving lifesaving treatment, every year.
Jane Featherstone, Head of Fundraising at The Sick Children’s Trust, says: ‘It costs us £28 a night to accommodate a family in a comfortable room, just minutes from their child’s bedside. The money raised by CIBC will go directly towards helping families in the most difficult of circumstances. We are delighted to be chosen by CIBC as beneficiaries in 2014 and are excited about working together to make a big difference to families with seriously ill children.’
2014 is the 30th anniversary of CIBC Miracle Day. Since its inception, £138 million has been raised to improve the quality of life of thousands of children affected by disability, illness, social deprivation or life-limiting conditions.
Charities Chance and React have also been chosen to benefit from the CIBC Children’s Foundation fundraising during 2014.

The Sick Children’s Trust was founded in 1982 by two paediatric specialists Dr Jon Pritchard and Professor James Malpas. They believed that having parents on hand during hospital treatment benefited a child's recovery.
Today we have nine ‘Homes from Home’ at major hospitals around the country where families can stay free of charge, for as long as they need whilst their child is undergoing treatment.
Every year we help around 3,500 families, but there is a growing demand for our ‘Homes from Home’ as children must increasingly travel long distances to get the specialist treatment they need.
We are working to a future where every family with a seriously ill child in hospital will be able to stay together, just minutes from their child’s bed during their treatment.
