Press release -

ROCHESTER BJJ (BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU) STAR RANKED NUMBER 1 IN THE UK

A twelve year old  from Rochester, Cameron Hibbert, has been named the top junior BJJ athlete in the UK by the UK Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Association (UKBJJA). Cameron topped the yellow belt rankings this year with a string of impressive performances in competition and held onto his number one spot despite being sidelined by injury towards the end of the year. His prize for his success is a free gi from sponsors Faixa Rua and free entry to all UKBJJA ranked events in 2016. Cameron's triumph this year continues his achievement last year when he was the UKBJJA top ranked junior overall for 2014 and received UKBJJA sponsorship to compete in America.

Cameron, who trains at Combat Sports Academy in Strood, Kent has been practising BJJ for four years. Despite his young age he has racked up numerous successes and competes at nearly every competition in the UK and Europe. Sponsored by TUFF Fightwear, Cameron has competed at the Kids Pan American Championships in California twice, achieving bronze in 2015 and silver in 2014, and has not lost a fight in Europe for three years.  As well as major national and international competitions, Cameron also competes regularly at the Kids Leagues, monthly events run for junior competitors across the country under the auspices of the UKBJJA, the sport's governing body elect

With the aim of encouraging and rewarding young talented athletes like Cameron, the UKBJJA has developed a ranking system which recognises the top junior BJJ players. This includes large national competitions as well as local kids leagues. The aim of these regional events is to promote BJJ at grass roots level by giving children and teenagers regular, relaxed and well-organised competitions every month, in a safe environment with experienced referees, while the big events in the calendar such as the British and English Open allow children to test themselves against the best competitors in the UK.

But for all the competitions, it is Cameron's love of training and supportive environment of his club which keeps him on the mats. Cameron's father Matt commented: "Combat Sports Academy has become his second home and his coaches Lee Johnston, Michael Hall, Adam Watt, Dan Hall and all of CSA have become family. We would encourage any kid to start BJJ as this sport has given him so many wonderful experiences and he has met amazing people along the way."
