Department of Health (National): Statistical press notice: Critical care and delayed transfers of care statistics – April 2011 data
The following statistics were released today by the Department of Health:
Monthly situation reports on critical care beds, cancelled operations and delayed transfers of care.
The main findings for April 2011 were:
- There were 3,707 adult critical care beds available with 2,901 occupied in April 2011. This compares to 3,679 available and 3,065 occupied in March 2011.
- The number of urgent operations cancelled was 219 in April 2011. This compares with 237 urgent operations cancelled in March 2011.
- The number of delayed transfers of care for April 2011 is 3,980 and the total number of delayed days in the month was 107,845. This compares with 4,174 delayed transfers and 122,392 delayed days in March 2011
- Of those 3,980, 2,141 were acute patients and of the delayed days, 57,393 were acute.
