Highways Agency: A1(M) Junctions 3 to 4, Hatfield Tunnel, Hertfordshire - overnight closures

The Hatfield Tunnel on the A1(M) in Hertfordshire, between junctions 3 and 4, will be closed overnight from 10pm to 5am on Friday 18 June 2010 to Saturday 19 June 2010 and Sunday 20 June to Monday 21 June for traffic layout management changes.
A fully-signed diversion route via the A1001and A414 will be in operation. As a result of these changes, from Monday 21 June, there will be a two-lane contraflow in both directions in the northbound Hatfield Tunnel while the southbound tunnel is being refurbished. There will be narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit 24 hours a day. Drivers could expect moderate delays during this work. A free recovery service will be in place.
The refurbishment is due to be completed in Spring 2011.
