Tower Hamlets: Affordable homes in Canary Wharf
Construction work on 130 affordable homes at Lanterns Court, Canary Wharf, is nearing completion with some of the homes looking set to welcome their first residents in early 2011.
Once finished, the development will comprise a total of 639 apartments over five blocks along with 1500sqm of commercial floor space.
This will provide 104 apartments for affordable rent and a further 26 apartments for shared ownership.
The apartments range in size and will help to meet the need for affordable family housing in the area.
Aman Dalvi, Corporate Director for Development and Renewal said “We are very pleased to be working on this landmark site in Canary Wharf, and to be helping to meet the high local demand for good quality, affordable housing.
"The Council looks forward to the completion of these units so that residents on its housing waiting lists can be housed appropriately.”
London Borough of Tower Hamlets will have 100 % nomination rights to the rented homes for the first lettings. This means that the local Council can select new tenants for a housing association property from the Housing Register.
