Ministry of Justice - Judicial Appointments: District Judge Appointments - Batten, Eldergill and Hilder

HM The Queen has appointed Elizabeth Anne Batten to be a District Judge on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Jack Straw MP. The Right Honourable The Lord Judge, Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales has assigned her to the South Eastern Circuit, with effect from Tuesday 23 March 2010, based at the Court of Protection for two years.

HM The Queen has appointed Anselm Charles Eldergill to be a District Judge on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Jack Straw MP. The Right Honourable The Lord Judge, Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales has assigned him to the South Eastern Circuit, with effect from Tuesday 23 March 2010, based at the Court of Protection for two years.

HM The Queen has appointed Carolyn Hayley Jane Hilder to be a District Judge on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Jack Straw MP. The Right Honourable The Lord Judge, Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales has assigned her to the South Eastern Circuit, with effect from Tuesday 23 March 2010, based at the Court of Protection for two years. She will be working on an 80% pro rata basis.

Notes to Editors

Ms Batten, aged 58, will be known as District Judge Batten. She was admitted as a Solicitor in 1977. She was appointed as a Fee-paid Legal Panel Member of the Criminal Injuries Compensation Appeals Panel in 2007.

Mr Eldergill, aged 51, will be known as District Judge Eldergill. He was admitted as a Solicitor in 1987. He was appointed as a Fee-paid Legally Qualified Panel Member of the Appeal Tribunals in 2005.

Ms Hilder, aged 40, will be known as District Judge Hilder. She was called to the Bar (L) in 1991. She was appointed as a Fee-paid Legal Member of the Mental Health Review Tribunal in 2003.
