Conservative Party: Government delivers on protecting patient dignity

Official new data confirms that the Government's crackdown on hospitals placing patients in mixed-sex accommodation is delivering real results.

In December 2010, the Coalition Government published data on breaches of mixed-sex accommodation for the first time, fining hospitals that failed to respect patient dignity.

Since these tough new rules were introduced the number of patients being unnecessarily placed in mixed-sex accommodation has plummeted by 83 per cent.

Health Minister, Simon Burns, said: "Despite 13 years of promises, Labour never took action to protect patient dignity. They covered up the scandal of mixed sex accommodation and treated patients with contempt.

"The Coalition Government is cleaning up Labour's mess - since December 2010, the number of patients unnecessarily placed in mixed-sex accommodation has dropped by 83 per cent.

"We need an NHS that works for patients. Our plans will make this a reality."
