Labour Party: Cameron is giving with one hand while Osborne takes away with the other - Alexander

Douglas Alexander MP, Labour’s Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, commenting on David Cameron’s speech today on families, said:

“David Cameron is simply giving with one hand while George Osborne takes a lot more with the other. At a time when the government is taking more from Britain's families than they are from Britain's banks it's a empty gesture for the Prime Minister to talk up a £2.5 million grant. 

"Of course families and relationships are vital, which is why we think they should be supported instead of facing billion of pounds of cuts to tax credits and child benefit. 

"To prioritise a £3 a week marriage tax break when you’re taking help away from the very poorest and drastically cutting public services is to fail to understand the real needs of families.”
