Labour Party: Inflation figures are worrying for families even before the impact of the VAT increase has taken effect - Angela Eagle

Angela Eagle MP, Labour's Shadow Chief Secretary, responding to the news that inflation has risen to 3.7% said:

"This rise in inflation is worrying. But it is not a surprise because it confirms what people up and down the country already know - that they are seeing prices rise on the high street and at the petrol pump.

"These price rises are before the further squeeze on families' living standards from this Tory-led Government's broken promise on VAT has taken effect. 

"The Prime Minister said last week that the Bank of England faces very difficult choices on interest rates. But the question he needs to answer is why on earth he is making that choice even more difficult by choosing to put VAT up now?"
