Liberal Democratic Party: Golden opportunity for UK-based green jobs squandered says Hughes

“Britain must be a world leader in offshore wind, but unless action is taken immediately we will lose out," said the Liberal Democrat Shadow Energy and Climate Change Secretary.

Commenting on the Government’s announcement that a number of firms have been given the go-ahead to develop new offshore wind farms, Simon Hughes said:

“For 13 years, Labour has failed to give proper support to Britain’s renewables industry, with one of the worst records on clean energy in Europe.

“90% of the billions earmarked for the London Array wind farm is being spent abroad, and there are real fears that yet again a golden opportunity to invest in green jobs has slipped through the Government’s grasp.

“Britain must be a world leader in offshore wind, but unless action is taken immediately we will lose out.”
