aal-europe.eu: ICT based solutions for the advancement of older persons' mobility

Through the Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) Joint Programme of the European Union, the Technology Strategy Board is to invest up to Euros 1.1 million in research and development projects that will stimulate innovation for ICT based solutions which help older people to sustain optimal level of mobility for as long as possible.

The Europe-wide programme aims to encourage the development of innovative processes and technologies with an emphasis on providing older people with an enhanced individual sense of confidence, autonomy, competence, security and safety, all of which can be achieved through the provision of better mobility solutions.

Mobility is an important element of integration in society and can play an important role in maintaining a good quality of life for older people. A person who is mobile can perform normal day-to-day activities on their own, keep up with their social network and undertake leisure activities.

Applications to the funding competition should propose to conceive and develop innovative and challenging technologies and processes that seek to underpin advances in two key areas - orientation and navigation (which may include aspects of physical and cognitive training) and assistive technology.

The competition opens today (31 March 2011) and the deadline for the submission of proposals is 30 June 2011. For further information please visit: http://www.aal-europe.eu/calls/call-4-2011
