Serena Software: Former IBM Rational and CA Executives Join Serena Software Management and Sales Team To Drive Worldwide Growth of Orchestrated ALM

• New Appointments Demonstrate Strength Of Serena’s Vision For Future Of Application Development

Serena Software, the leader in orchestrated application development, IT and business processes, today announced the appointment of two senior sales executives previously with IBM Rational and CA in order to support its delivery of orchestrated application lifecycle management (ALM) solutions to enterprise organisations. Serena has added Sharryn Millican as Vice President of Sales in the APAC region and Paul Hewitt as Regional Sales Director for the UK and Ireland.

Millican, previously Senior Director and General Manager at the CA Wily Business Unit, brings over 20 years of industry experience to Serena. As Vice President of Sales, she will be instrumental in Serena’s expansion of its operations within the region as well supporting existing customers.

Hewitt has worked in IT for the last 25 years. His former role was head of UK Systems Engineering Sales and Marketing at IBM Rational, and prior to that he worked at Telelogic where he was Managing Director of the UK and Senior Vice President for Western Europe.
Hewitt has joined Serena to lead the growth of the company in the UK and Ireland. Hewitt’s experience in Project Portfolio Management, Requirements Management, Software Configuration Management and Release Management solutions will be invaluable to the company.

Serena’s Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) and Process Management solutions enable enterprises to automate strategic IT processes, deliver applications faster and reduce costs. Delivering automated, end-to-end application delivery—from demand to development to deployment--enables the world’s largest global enterprises to better orchestrate, measure, predict and improve the overall software delivery process.

Commenting on her new role, Millican said, “Application development is an area that is becoming more and more important for businesses to gain competitive advantage, especially with reduced IT budgets. Serena’s orchestrated approach to ALM can help organisations focus on application development as a business process so that it can deliver more value back to the business. I am looking forward to taking this solution to market in my new role with Serena.”

“This is an important time for Serena,” said Hewitt. “The relationship between development and business operations has up until now been disjointed. As demand for applications increases along with the associated complexity, combined with a wider range of platforms to support, it is essential that the two teams work together to bridge these gaps through greater use of control and management frameworks. Serena has a really strong offering for businesses looking to improve the agility and quality of their application development and delivery, so I am confident that 2011 will be a successful year for the company and I’m looking forward to being part of this.”

“I am pleased to welcome Sharryn and Paul to the Serena team,” said John Nugent, CEO at Serena. “They bring a wealth of experience to their roles and I’m sure this will be key in the year ahead. Many organisations are struggling to meet their application delivery targets and this is because for too long business and development have not worked in unison. Serena’s orchestrated ALM approach helps businesses to automate the application development process where possible so that the whole process is much quicker and smoother.”

About Sharryn Millican

Prior to joining Serena Software, Millican was senior director and general manager at the CA Wily Business Unit with Computer Associates. For the last 3 years, she headed up CA’s Application Performance Management (APM) Division, managing CA Wily as a standalone business. During this time, she transformed this business unit and tripled the license business in three years from $4.3M to $14.5M.

About Paul Hewitt

Hewitt began his career as a systems engineer, designing air traffic control and police command and control communication systems. He moved into sales when he established the UK sales office for US company Ascent Logic Corporation, growing the business to over $3M turnover in 7 years. Hewitt started selling ALM software solutions when he joined Telelogic in 1999. In 2008 the company was acquired by IBM where he led the Systems Sales initiative for the IBM Rational brand in the UK and Ireland.
