With the industry debate around Carrier Ethernet and Packet Optical Transport Systems (POTS), Telindus has demonstrated an operation-ready laboratory demonstration of seamless interoperability and management of packet and optical layer networking using ADVA Optical Networking and Juniper Networks solutions. This highlights the key building blocks and product features necessary to deliver a business-ready solution that is expected to underpin the next transformation in core transport networks – leveraging the value and benefits of packet and optical layer convergence.
Using GMPLS (Generalised Multi Protocol Label Switching), end-to-end control and full visibility of network resources and constraints over the combined optical and packet cloud is possible, enabling instantaneous provisioning and de-provisioning of very high bandwidth circuits in response to growth of customers’ application traffic, content or flash crowd events. This offers businesses high levels of flexibility, optimum utilization of network resources and the ability to deliver bandwidth on demand cost effectively.
Robin Abel, Sales Director, UK at ADVA Optical Networking commented: “ADVA Optical Networking is a company driven by innovation, speed and trust and we seek to work with partners who share our values. Telindus has played a key part in supporting the programme between ourselves and Juniper Networks and will be instrumental in ensuring that organisations gain maximum benefit from this technological breakthrough.”
“Together with Juniper Networks and Telindus, we have built an effective solutions programme designed to integrate seamlessly into our customers’ networking environment.” Mr Abel continues. “Built on a market-proven platform, our solutions ensure customers are able to reduce capital and operational expenses while at the same time eliminating network complexity.”
“This development is particularly relevant to organisations currently deploying MPLS, DWDM and ROADM technologies and enables them to future-proof their networks,” said James Bristow, vice president, service providers, EMEA, Juniper Networks. “It demonstrates interoperability with ADVA Optical Networking’s solutions and the value of using the Junos® operating system to provision, activate and control large bandwidth services seamlessly and dynamically, end-to-end at the packet and wavelength levels.”
Michael Downs, Head of Service Provider Sales at Telindus, commented: “To remain competitive in today’s economy, organisations need high levels of flexibility and agility to respond positively to market changes. With ICT networks now representing the backbone of any business, they need that agility and flexibility to be reflected in their infrastructure, combined with an ever-increasing need for high bandwidth. With this solution, we can help organisations plan for and achieve this cost-effectively, using best of breed technology in both packet and optical domains.”
