The cream of high-tech IT talent is set to settle in Belfast early this New Year with the establishment of a research and development centre in the town.

Software and computer consultancy services leader First Derivatives will provide a new R & D hub for the development of Delta product suite, software used by investment banks, hedge funds and other financial institutions across the world.

The managing director for Great Britain’s premier executive careers consultancy UK Knack Group says, “I’m thrilled to announce this move by First Derivatives, because it will mean 40 jobs for some of the brightest young fellows in the business, and because IT is the coming blue chip career, so to speak, so it advances British dominance even further to have a company of FD’s prestige in Belfast.”

The global financial services sector is First Derivatives’ target market, and the company’s chief technical officer Brendon Duffy says that the new centre will facilitate the delivery of systems and services to those clients, adding, "Our core team located in Belfast comprises some of the best and most recognisable talent within the financial services industry.” He says he believes that the firm’s present combination of skill and enthusiasm will propel it to be the best in its field in the world.

“As if it’s not enough that First Derivatives employs 500-odd staff in almost every global financial centre,” says UK Knack Group. “This is an enterprise not cowed by talk of recession. These people see a market and they go for it – and they get it.”
