Global graduates dive right in to V.Group life

Now in its third year, the 2017 V.Group global graduates arrived at their first port of call on Monday 9 October – Glasgow – for an induction before taking up the first of four assignments, which will be undertaken over the two-year programme.

This year our graduates come from the UK, Italy, Greece and France and will be undertaking assignments in ship management, marine services, operations support including safety, quality and compliance. They will also spend some time at sea to fully understand the role we play in shipping.

As well as getting to meet and hear from some key people in the organisation, our new graduates undertook further study with the APM Project Management Course. Faye Carson, Group Director, HR said: “Our graduates undertake some exciting projects on their placements and ensuring they all have the skills to manage these projects is an important part of their development. They are awarded a formal qualification, which again supports our commitment to their future careers.”

With the formal classroom learning complete, it was time for some team building and some fun-action based learning. Visiting the Nautical faculty at the City of Glasgow College, our graduates donned their safety gear and took to the River Clyde in a speed rescue boat, before navigating a vessel around Venice, New York and the Sydney Harbour Bridge – all from the safety of the faculty’s state of the art bridge simulators.

The induction came to an end with a trip to a marine training centre near Glasgow Airport where the graduates undertook fire and safety training, facilitated by Steam Marine Training. They are now making their way to their first assignments and we look forward to following their journey.

V.Group’s first global graduates who joined us in 2015 have now ‘graduated’ and last month saw them take up their first permanent posts with us.
