Set in the lush fields of Lowther Deer Park in the heart of the Lake District, the Kendal Calling festival started off as an intimate affair between renegade music lovers. Nine years on, the award winning event is a celebration of an eclectic mix of everything from music to real ale.

All the fun starts on 1 August with the likes of  Suede, Frank Turner, Example , 2manydj’s Tom Odell, Miles Kane and Zane Lowe and hundreds of other artists all due to appear. With plenty of food and drink stalls to suit every taste, the kids are also catered for with a dedicated Toddler’s area and Family Workshops throughout the weekend.

Getting there by train and avoiding the stresses of the M6 could not be easier. Penrith station is conveniently located with direct trains from London, Birmingham, Glasgow, Edinburgh and The Lakes. And to make the journey even smoother, the regular shuttle bus service that departs directly outside Penrith Station will take you to and from the festival in no time at all.

Adrian Varma, Partnerships Manager at Virgin Trains said: “We’re extremely excited to be supporting Kendal Calling, winner of the best medium sized festival in the UK.

“We’re giving those attending an exclusive 25% discount off our tickets to get them to the beautiful Lake District, somewhere we have been proud to serve for the past 15 years. There really is no better way of getting there than by train.”

Andy Smith, Festival Director of Kendal Calling said: “As Lake District locals we love putting on our festival which over 9 years has grown from being primarily a local affair to attracting music and culture lovers from all over the UK.
