Press release -
Canadian couple see Scotland for reel
A movie-mad Canadian couple have travelled thousands of miles from their home in Toronto to enjoy a whirlwind “set-jetting” tour of Scotland.
Among various film locations, Jan Wong and Angela Lam took in Rosslyn Chapel, Midlothian, as featured in Ron Howard’s big-screen version of The Da Vinci Code (2006), Glen Coe, in the Highlands, which appears in last year’s James Bond blockbuster Skyfall, Stirling Castle, which can be seen in Kidnapped (1971) starring Michael Caine, and Edinburgh Academy, which is seen in the 1969 classic The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, starring Maggie Smith.
“We’ve always been fans of the movies and have been influenced to go to places as a result of seeing them on screen,” said Jan, a 42-year-old accountant.
Wife Angela, a nurse, also 42, added: “This is our first visit to Scotland, but it certainly won’t be our last. It’s absolutely beautiful but I was still surprised just how many films have been shot here. We didn’t have time to see the Glenfinnan Viaduct, which is in the Harry Potter movies, this time round so we’ll definitely be back!”
Mike Cantlay, Chairman of VisitScotland, said: “With Scotland playing host to numerous film shoots of late, including Skyfall, Prometheus, The Dark Knight Rises, World War Z, Cloud Atlas and the upcoming Sunshine on Leith to name just a few, it is hardly surprising that set-jetting in this country is proving so popular. We hope to welcome more and more set-jetters (people who visit their favourite movie locations) here as Scotland continues to prove that it really is the ultimate film set.”
Top-ten blockbusters shot in (and inspired by) Scotland:
1. Skyfall (2012)
2. The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
3. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (2001)
4. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007)
