Press release -

WALKING ON SUNSHINE

Visitors to Edinburgh are now able to dance in the footsteps of the film stars with the release of a special Sunshine on Leith movie locations map.

Produced by VisitScotland and Marketing Edinburgh, the map (PDF attached) pinpoints all the main capital locations seen in the film, which hits cinema screens across the country tomorrow. Adapted from Stephen Greenhorn’s stage musical of the same name, Sunshine on Leith is a heartwarming musical featuring the hit songs of The Proclaimers and stars the likes of Peter Mullan, Jane Horrocks and Antonia Thomas.

The Shore, North Bridge, Princes Street Gardens, the Royal Mile and George Square are just some of the locations highlighted on the new map, which is now available for free in Edinburgh’s VisitScotland Information Centre at 3 Princes Street. It will also be distributed in cinemas, bars and restaurants throughout the city.

Sunshine on Leith is one of numerous films to be shot on location in Scotland’s capital, including Filth (2013), One Day (2011), Trainspotting (1996), Chariots of Fire (1981) and The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1969).

Mike Cantlay, Chairman of VisitScotland, said: “Sunshine on Leith is a fantastic, feel-good film which highlights the many stunning locations throughout Edinburgh. Set-jetting, which sees people visit the places where movies were shot, seems to be increasingly popular in Scotland, especially with so many films being made here. This new locations map is a handy way for fans of Sunshine on Leith to enjoy, in real life, those places that they see on the silver screen.”

Rosie Ellison, Film Manager at Marketing Edinburgh’s Film Office, said: “We have had a lot of filming in Edinburgh in the last few years and it is very exciting to be seeing the fruits of the hard work of Scotland’s film industry.  Sunshine on Leith is a glorious film celebrating love, life and the music of The Proclaimers. It is a fantastic advert for Edinburgh that will stick in the minds of the audience and encourage people to visit. This movie map will help people locate the places where the action takes place, both in the city centre and in Leith.”
