Caerphilly design entrepreneur wins Welsh Government backing

A Caerphilly-based motion graphic and interactive design business has received financial backing from Communities 2.0, the Welsh Government’s digital inclusion initiative, which will enable it to compete on a worldwide basis.

Set up by David Wiffen, DW Studio offers two services to a global market: motion graphic video design for broadcast and commercials; and computer generated imagery for commercial products and architecture. David has already recruited his first graduate employee through Jobs Growth Wales since he started his business in May this year.

Communities 2.0 has supported DW Studio Ltd with an investment of over £6,800 to help the business buy high end rendering hardware and upgraded software. The support will dramatically increase the day-to-day efficiency of the business and allow multiple projects to be created and rendered at once, therefore directly increasing the business’s turnover, adding extra capacity and allowing it to compete in a worldwide market.

The investment comes from a Communities 2.0 initiative aimed at providing ICT support to new companies with the potential to create and sustain jobs.

This investment shows the quality of indigenous entrepreneurial talent in Wales and the potential for businesses in Wales to compete in a global market. This investment is just part of a total of over £68,000 invested across Wales as part of this round of Communities 2.0 funding. To date over £423,000 has been approved for direct investment in enterprises and micro businesses in Wales, supporting 83 enterprises.

In addition, Communities 2.0 has supported 225 enterprises with significant assistance and advice to help them adopt or exploit Information Communication Technology. Over 320 community groups and organisations have also benefitted from significant assistance and advice from the project, some of whom have used this to create new social enterprises.

Mae DW Studio, a sefydlwyd gan David Wiffen, yn cynnig dau wasanaeth i farchnad fyd-eang: dylunio fideo gan ddefnyddio graffeg fyw ar gyfer darlledu a hysbysebion; a delweddau wedi’u creu â chyfrifiadur ar gyfer cynhyrchion masnachol a phensaernïaeth. Mae David eisoes wedi recriwtio ei
gyflogai graddedig cyntaf trwy Twf Swyddi Cymru ers iddo ddechrau ei fusnes ym mis Mai eleni.

Mae Cymunedau 2.0 wedi rhoi cymorth i DW Studio Ltd ar ffurf buddsoddiad o dros £6,800 i helpu’r busnes i brynu caledwedd rendro a meddalwedd uwchraddedig. Bydd y gefnogaeth yn cynyddu effeithlonrwydd y busnes o ddydd i ddydd yn ddramatig ac yn ei gwneud yn bosib creu a rendro sawl
prosiect ar unwaith, gan felly gynyddu trosiant y busnes yn uniongyrchol, a chan roi gallu ychwanegol iddo a’i alluogi i gystadlu mewn marchnad fyd-eang. 

Daw’r buddsoddiad o fenter gan Cymunedau 2.0 sydd wedi’i bwriadu i roi cymorth TGCh i gwmnïau newydd sydd â’r potensial i greu a chynnal swyddi. Rhaglen gan Lywodraeth Cymru yw Cymunedau 2.0 a ran-ariennir â chyllid o Gronfa Datblygu Rhanbarthol Ewrop.

Rydym yn edrych ymlaen at wylio’r busnes yn tyfu, yn creu swyddi ac yn cyflogi mwy o greadigion talentog yn y dyfodol”.

Mae’r buddsoddiad hwn yn rhan yn unig o gyfanswm o dros £68,000 a fuddsoddwyd ledled Cymru fel rhan o’r cylch hwn o gyllid Cymunedau 2.0. Hyd yma mae dros £423,000 wedi cael ei gymeradwyo ar gyfer buddsoddiad uniongyrchol mewn mentrau cymdeithasol a microfusnesau yng Nghymru, gan roi
cymorth i 83 o fentrau.  

Yn ogystal, mae Cymunedau 2.0 wedi rhoi cryn dipyn o gymorth a chyngor i 225 o fentrau i’w helpu i fabwysiadu neu fanteisio ar Dechnoleg Gwybodaeth a Chyfathrebu. Mae dros 320 o grwpiau a mudiadau cymunedol hefyd wedi elwa o gymorth a chyngor sylweddol gan y prosiect, y mae nifer
ohonynt wedi defnyddio hyn i greu mentrau cymdeithasol newydd.
