London Northwestern Railway: Bargain £1 ticket promotion extended on Marston Vale Line

A special ticket promotion launched to celebrate the return of train services on the Marston Vale Line is being extended for a further three months, operator London Northwestern Railway (LNR) has announced today.

Thousands of passengers have taken advantage of the promotional £1 single fare (50p for children) on the route, which runs between Bedford and Bletchley, since services resumed on Monday 19 February. Due to the popularity of the offer, LNR has today confirmed the special fare will remain available until August.

Jonny Wiseman, LNR customer experience director, said: “We have been delighted with the positive response to this ticket offer from our passengers following a frustrating period for our passengers on the Marston Vale Line.

“By keeping this offer open during the spring and summer months we hope to encourage even more passengers to leave the car at home explore the beautiful countryside and attractions the line has to offer.”

Under the offer, a single journey between any two stations on the Marston Vale Line will continue to cost just £1 (50p for children). The promotion represents a discount of up to 90% on the standard fare, depending on the journey.

Stephen Sleight, from the Marston Vale Community Rail Partnership, said: "The £1 ticket has been really popular and it has been great to welcome many passengers from across the country to the Ridgmont Station heritage centre once again.

"I am thrilled the offer has been extended for a further three months, which gives passengers the ideal opportunity to enjoy all the Marston Vale Line has to offer, particularly with half-term approaching.”

Prior to resumption of the train service in February, a partial timetable has been in operation on the line since November 2023. Before this the line had been served by rail replacement buses since December 2022, after the company which maintained the Class 230 trains previously used on the route entered administration.

The full timetable sees hourly services running in each direction between Bedford and Bletchley from Monday-Saturday, including bank holidays. There is no Sunday service on the Marston Vale Line.
