West Midlands Railway: Disruption on Cross City Line due to fallen tree
West Midlands Railway is urging passengers using the Cross City Line between Lichfield and Birmingham to check before travelling on Tuesday (April 30) after a fallen tree caused significant damage to overhead power lines.
The tree fell near Chester Road station on Monday afternoon, resulting in the closure of the line. Network Rail engineers are working to repair the damage as quickly as possible but the railway is currently expected to remain closed on Tuesday morning.
Rail replacement transport and ticket acceptance on local buses will remain in place between Lichfield and Birmingham until the railway reopens. Train services continue to run on the south of the Cross City Line, between Birmingham and Redditch/Bromsgrove.
Jonny Wiseman, customer experience director at West Midlands Railway, said: "The fallen tree near Chester Road has caused significant damage to the overhead power lines which will take Network Rail some time to repair.
"I urge passengers travelling on Tuesday to check their journeys before setting out as rail replacement transport will be in operation until the repairs have been completed and the railway reopens.
"Up-to-date information is available via journey planners, our website and social media channels and I would like to thank our passengers for their patience while these repairs are completed."
