    And we’re back! For the first time since 2019, the real-life grad show is returning to Umeå Institute of Design. At UID22, the next generation of designers will uncover concepts covering a wide range of topics; from AI in autonomous vehicles, to playful therapies for children, to a device for managing your crypto assets.

  • Nancy Holt retrospective to open at Bildmuseet this Summer

    On June 17, Bildmuseet in Sweden opens its doors to a rich presentation of Nancy Holt's innovative art. The exhibition Nancy Holt / Inside Outside presents works from 1967 to 1992 and occupies five floors of the art museum. This is the artist's first major retrospective in Europe and the most ambitious exhibition of her work to date.

  • Master's Degree Exhibition from the Umeå Academy of Fine Arts opens at Bildmuseet

    Live is Life is the title of this year’s Master’s degree exhibition from Umeå Academy of Fine Arts at Umeå University, Sweden. It will be inaugurated at Bildmuseet on 29 April with an Art Friday event. Welcome to the press preview on Thursday, 28 April from 10–11 am (R.S.V.P).   • Eva Koťátková /  What Does a Turtle Feel Through the Carapace? 

    Empathy and the ability to understand the situation of others is the theme of Czech artist Eva Koťátková’s exhibition, which opens at Bildmuseet on April 8. The central work is a two-part installation, one of which is shown in the artist’s solo exhibition at Bildmuseet and the other in parallel as part of ARS22 at Kiasma in Helsinki.

  • Swedish Picture Book of the Year / Lilybell and Bluevalley

    Pija Lindenbaum’s "Vitvivan och Gullsippan" [Lilybell and Bluevalley] has been awarded the Snöbollen [Snowball] prize for Swedish Picture Book of the Year 2021. March 19, in conjunction with the award ceremony during Littfest, Bildmuseet opens an exhibition of original illustrations and sketches from the winning book.

    How can data science contribute to a more sustainable world? In his thesis defended at Umeå University, Sweden, Dong Wang has explored how data mining and explainable machine learning can be used to gain better process control strategies for environmental industries like wastewater treatment plants.

    Graphite oxide is a multilayer hydrophilic material produced by oxidation of graphite. It is a starting point for preparation of many materials for variety of applications. In his thesis in physics defended at Umeå University, Sweden, Artem Iakunkov includes extensive studies of some fundamental properties of graphite oxides, chemical modification and testing for several important applications.

    Asymmetric sex chromosomes were independently shaped during evolution in many species, and different strategies evolved alongside to overcome the resulting imbalance in genetic information. Therefore it is essential to understand and improve the details of plant growth. Laxmi Mishra has developed new knowledge about a family of chloroplast proteases called FtsH. She is defending her dissertation at Umeå University.
