Charles and Ray Eames at Bildmuseet

Welcome to the press preview of the Charles and Ray Eames exhibition at Bildmuseet, on Friday 15 April at 10:00. Meet Eames Demetrios, Director of Eames Office and grandson of Charles and Ray Eames, and Lotte Johnson, assistant curator at Barbican Art Gallery.

The American design couple Charles and Ray Eames are among the most influential designers of the 20th century. Together they moved fluidly between the fields of photography, film, architecture, exhibition-making, furniture and product design. The Eames Office in Los Angeles was a hub of activity where they produced innovating designs with a boundless creativity that defined their careers.

On Sunday 17 April Bildmuseet opens the exhibition Charles and Ray Eames. It includes furniture, products, models and multi-media installations, as well as personal letters, photographs and artwork. It reveals the breadth of the Eameses' innovative work, reminds us of their playful ideas and provides an insight into their lives.

The opening weekend starts with talks on Saturday 16 April, with international speakers: Eames Demetrios, Director of Eames Office and grandson of Charles and Ray Eames, and Catherine Ince, Curator of the exhibition The World of Charles and Ray Eames. Lecture by one of the world's leading Eames' scholars, Pat Kirkham, Professor of Design History, Kingston University, London, and Professor Emerita, Bard Graduate Center, New York.
