Press release -

The Nobel Prize in Chemistry is receiving digital attention

Umeå houses great knowledge of the gene editing tool and its revolutionary importance to research. Umeå University also has a renowned research environment and culture, which is undoubtedly an important part in making scientific breakthroughs.

Due to the pandemic, Umeå University will not be organising a face-to-face event in conjunction with the Nobel Prize Ceremony on 10 December.

“We are truly proud of Emmanuelle Charpentier and the discoveries she made at Umeå University. We look forward to one day being able to celebrate the Nobel Prize in Chemistry at Umeå University and get the opportunity to invite Emmanuelle Charpentier – which is something we know she is looking forward to as well. But at the moment, the pandemic requires us to take responsibility for our staff, students and fellow citizens,” says Hans Adolfsson, Vice-Chancellor of Umeå University.

Until celebrations can be held, heaps of information related to CRISPR-Cas9 is available on Umeå University’s website www.umu.se/en covering, for instance, the importance of the technology for research and researchers, the environment and atmosphere that Umeå University offers to promote ground-breaking research, and a list of experts that can go in-depth into the gene editing tool.
