Umeå Academy of Fine Arts MFA degree show opens at Bildmuseet

On Art Friday 3 May, Bildmuseet opens the annual MFA degree show from the Umeå Academy of Fine Arts. You are invited to meet a new generation of artists and a wide spectrum of ideas, materials and techniques.

Press preview on Thursday 2 May at 10:00-12:00 (RSVP). The artists will all be present to talk about their works. Welcome by museum curator Lisa Lundström. Berlin based artist Ariane Müller – guest professor, main instructor and curator of the exhibition – gives a presentation.

In stories, the word ‘meanwhile’ transfers us to an event taking place at the same time but in a place offset from the main event. Meanwhile is a signal to raise our attention. We are transported to this other place because what is about to happen there will soon have an impact on the development of the story.

The exhibition Meanwhile is the finale of a two-year long process of intensive discussions, research and work. For the young artists it is an opportunity to see, and show their work in the context of a museum. For the visitor it gives an insight into discourse within the field of contemporary art. It is also a survey of the tension between a globalised discussion of how our world is visually represented, and the experiences of a local reality meanwhile.

Participating artists: Martin Arvidsson, Johannes Blomgren, Jonas Börjesson, Laura Cemin, Siri Elfhag, Adrián Espinós Ferrero, Moa Gustafsson Söndergaard, Jonne Hansson, Agatha Lewandowski, Ingvild Melberg Eikeland, Ingeborg Paulsrud, Alex Rosa, Sally von Rosen, Linda Samuelsson and Peter Stridsberg.

The exhibition runs at Bildmuseet 3–19 May, 2019. Exhibition catalogue.
