    Loulou Cherinet / State Design

    On Friday, October 13th, Bildmuseet opens an exhibition by the artist Loulou Cherinet. For Bildmuseet, she has created a site-specific room installation inspired by early panorama painting and 19th-century cycloramas. Around forty, four-meter-high paintings come together to envelop the museum visitor in the illusion of an urban environment.

    Bildmuseet: Entangle / Physics and the Artistic Imagination

    Black holes, dark matter, gravity, space and time – these are phenomena that fascinate scientists and artists alike. Bildmuseet presents Entangle / Physics and the Artistic Imagination: painting, installation, fashion design, sculpture, film, digital artwork and photography inspired by the science which investigates the fundamental forces which shape our world.     Bildmuseet: Ângela Ferreira / Pan African Unity Mural

    ​Ângela Ferreira is interested in post-colonial issues and how architecture bear traces of history, politics and ideology. In Pan African Unity Mural, the artist’s first solo exhibition in Scandinavia, she presents sculptures and murals in different spaces inside Bildmuseet. Press preview Thursday 15 Nov at 10:00 (RSVP).     Opening at Bildmuseet: Do Ho Suh / Passages

    On Friday 17 November, Bildmuseet will open a solo exhibition of the works of artist Do Ho Suh, his first in Scandinavia. The museum’s top floor will be taken up entirely by a large installation of his transparent fabric structures. The exhibition also includes video works and drawings in which the artist explores architecture in various ways as physical and mental spaces.

    On Sunday, Oct 28 at 14:00 Bildmuseet opens an exhibition featuring Henning Larsen Architects, the internationally successful Danish architectural firm whose work with the new Bildmuseet and the School of Architecture at Umeå Arts Campus has left its mark on Umeå. Architects Per Ebbe Hansson and Louis Becker of Henning Larsen Architects are present at the opening.

  • A building made of bottles: Inflatable market hall winning idea in architecture competition

    Rodrigo García Gonzales, student at Umeå Institute of Design, Umeå University, receives first prize in the European student competition in sustainable architecture, Gau:di. The winning concept is a market hall made of empty plastic bottles and paper. It will be constructed in full scale and presented at the opening of the Biennale of Architecture in Venice, Italy on August 28.
