    Iwo Myrin / Memories from the Taiga

    Iwo Myrin’s motifs are drawn from the taiga, the geographical zone of the northern hemisphere dominated by coniferous forest. In bronze casts and pinhole photographs of mushrooms, pine needles and moss, the taiga makes a direct impression in his exhibition at Bildmuseet.     Premiere in Europe for Naeem Mohaiemen’s new film about loss and care

    ​Naeem Mohaiemen’s film Jole Dobe Na (Those Wo Do Not Drown) was commissioned by the Yokohama Triennale and Bildmuseet, where it is now being shown for the first time following its premiere in Japan. In the exhibition at Bildmuseet, the new film is presented together with earlier works by the artist.

    Opening at Bildmuseet: Grada Kilomba / A World of Illusions

    Bildmuseet, Sweden, presents Grada Kilomba’s first solo exhibition in Scandinavia; a trilogy of poetic film installations that use antique dramas to highlight postcolonial issues of racism, gender oppression and violence. The exhibition is the premiere of the third chapter of the trilogy, and the large scale video works are thereby being exhibited together for the very first time.

    John Akomfrah's Purple opens at Bildmuseet

    ​Bildmuseet presents a new work by British artist and filmmaker John Akomfrah, his most ambitious project to date. Purple is an immersive six-channel video installation addressing man's relationship to nature and to the planet. Press conference with John Akomfrah on Thursday 12 April 10:00-12:00, including a preview of the 60 minutes film work. The exhibition opens April 13 at 19:00.

    John Akomfrah's Vertigo Sea at Bildmuseet

    Press and journalists are welcome to the preview in connection to the Swedish premiere of John Akomfrahs new three-channel film installation Vertigo Sea, a meditation on man's relationship with the sea. As first touring venue after the 2015 Venice biennale, the film will have its Swedish premiere at Bildmuseet in cooperation with BAC–Baltic Art Center.

    ​BAC and Bildmuseet are pleased to announce their partnership in supporting the production of John Akomfrah’s Vertigo Sea at the 56th Venice Biennale curated by Okwui Enwenzor, and in its Swedish premiere at Bildmuseet on October 25th. Akomfrah’s new presentation is a three-screen film installation, which forms a meditation on whaling, the environment and our relationship to the sea.
