Press release -
DMG Productions to feature The Scoular Company in upcoming episode of American Farmer this Fall
The Scoular Company, a North American agricultural trading company, announced today that it will be featured on an upcoming episode of American Farmer.
The episode will help tell the story of the intricate distribution system that moves grain from the American farmer’s fields to the first processor. Today’s American farmer is producing grain to be used in food, feed, and fuel for people around the world. Moving grain from the farm to population centers where it is consumed requires a complex network of grain-handling facilities, numerous modes of transportation, and companies who specialize in making the supply chain safer, more efficient, and cost-effective. Broadcast is scheduled for Fall 2011 on a combination of national cable and satellite networks. Dates and show times will be announced at a later date.
“Grain is the foundation of most of the food we consume,” said Bob Ludington, The Scoular Company COO. “It feeds our dairy cattle to become milk, yogurt, butter and cheese. It also feeds the sheep, swine, poultry, and beef cattle that we consume as various meat products – from steaks to pepperoni. It is milled into flour for bread, crackers, cookies, tortillas and pasta. Yet many Americans have little to no idea how grain gets from the fields to their tables.
The Scoular Company operates more than 60 grain elevators throughout North America, buying grain from farmers, selling it to processors, and handling all of the logistics in between. Grain elevators serve as a critical link in the food supply chain, helping distribute grain from the farmer to flour mills, feeders of animals grown for meat, ethanol plants, or other first processors. Our network of grain elevators coupled with our logistics and transportation know-how contribute to the larger distribution system that allows consumers to enjoy the fruits of harvest long after the harvest is complete,” said Ludington.
“We are proud to be partnering with The Scoular Company in this upcoming segment on the grain distribution system,” said Adrien Aniceto, producer for the series. “Farmers harvest their crops just three to six weeks of the year, but processors need to produce food and fuel every day of the year so consumers have the products they want and need, when they want and need them. We’re looking forward to helping viewers better understand how the grain distribution system works.”
