Freemake Video Converter 2.3: The First Free Software to Boost Conversion Speed with DXVA Technology

Freemake Video Converter is a free software to convert between 200 video formats, edit video and burn DVD discs in a simplified way. The software takes full advantage of hardware acceleration technologies which speed up video conversion by 50%.

Freemake Video Converter 2.3 integrates DXVA 2.0 which stands for DirectX Video Acceleration. As a result, Freemake Video Converter 2.3 offers more efficient video processing for HD video. The latest version of video converter also reduces heavy CPU usage as video decoding is handled by computer graphic chip thus freeing up computer processor for other tasks.

Now more users can benefit from hardware accelerated conversion because DXVA works on a wide variety of graphic cards including ATI Radeon, AMD, NVIDIA and Intel cards. In tests ATI Radeon graphic cards showed the best acceleration increasing conversion speed by 50%.

Elena Zamaraeva, the product development head, says: "Before DXVA technology has been used in video playback applications. Now Freemake Video Converter introduces DXVA support for video converting software. Our tests show that acceleration time varies from 20 percent to 50 percent depending on a computer specification and converted file types".

Freemake Video Converter 2.3 targets users who have weak PC processors and modern graphic cards. Owners of powerful processors may not notice big difference in conversion time because in this case processor power is enough to cover both encoding and decoding tasks efficiently. Also, due to DXVA specifics, the hardware acceleration is possible for certain video codecs, specifically H.264 and MPEG2 as found in HD video and video ripped from DVD.

In addition to DXVA support, Freemake Video Converter 2.3 features a new algorithm that automatically detects and optimizes the conversion parameters, whether DXVA, CUDA or DXVA+CUDA, or no graphic card enabled. This ensures the most efficient process is selected based on the PC's individual hardware specification. The algorithm is working on video files longer than five minutes.
