Sustainability in action: Dyneo+ by Nidec Leroy-Somer obtains PEP ecopassport® label

In a context where sustainability and energy efficiency drive decisions, Nidec Leroy-Somer, a product brand of Nidec and a pioneer in the design of high-efficiency electric motors, announces the publication of the environmental profile of its ultra-premium IE5 motor, Dyneo+, on the PEP (Product Environmental Profile) ecopassport® portal, an international benchmark for objective, transparent and comparable environmental declaration for electrical, electronic and HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) equipment.

Committed to the technical performance of its products as well as its environmental responsibility, Nidec Leroy-Somer has embarked on a proactive approach to assessing the environmental impact of its products, considering the entire life cycle (manufacturing, distribution, installation, use and end-of-life), starting with its Dyneo+ permanent magnet synchro-reluctant motor.

Dyneo+PEP ecopassport® to make an informed, sustainable choice

This certification not only validates the environmental responsibility of Dyneo+, but also highlights its tangible benefits for industrial users, offering an advanced solution for energy performance and sustainability:

  • Up to 97.5% efficiency, enabling significant energy savings
  • 25-year lifespan, reducing maintenance and replacement costs
  • High repairability and recyclability, supporting circular economy initiatives
  • Ferrite permanent magnets, which are more environmentally friendly and avoid rare-earth dependencies
  • Optimized energy consumption, thanks to variable speed drive control
  • Significant reduction in CO₂ emissions.

The Dyneo+ environmental profile, has been drawn up in accordance with the ISO 14025 standard, and verified by the independent organization PEP ecopassport®.

The aim of this publication is to enable customers to make informed and sustainable choices when it comes to high-performance drive systems, as environmental quality is increasingly becoming an important decision-making criterion for both specifiers and buyers seeking to reduce their carbon footprint.

“This first PEP ecopassport®label for Dyneo+ reflects our daily commitment to sustainability, innovation and responsibility in product development” says Julien Moreau, Product Manager “We work actively towards rigorous eco-design, total environmental transparency and continuous improvement of our products and industrial processes. Dyneo+ is our first product to obtain the ecopassport®label, but others will follow.”

Low-carbon industrial strategy

Nidec Leroy-Somer's commitment to sustainability extends far beyond its products being well aligned with Nidec ACIM (Appliance, Commercial and Industrial Motors) 2030 targets. Among four, three are carbon-related: the achievement of carbon neutral operations, followed by the aim to reduce its customers’ carbon footprint by one gigaton, and closing the cycle with an assessment of its key suppliers on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) topics.

In partnership with the ADEME(1), DREETS(2), Fonds Chaleur(3), Charente Prefecture, DREAL(4)Charente and the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region, an ambitious Energy Performance Plan (EPP) has been developed to significantly reduce gas and electricity consumption at its production sites, including those in Charente.

  • Nearly 1 million euros invested, over 10,000 tonnes of CO2 avoided

The plan includes 29 energy improvement projects to be implemented over 2025 and 2026 fiscal years, with an overall investment of nearly one million euros. These initiatives include the deployment of intelligent energy metering and supervision systems, the optimization of heating and heat recovery systems, and the gradual replacement of energy intensive motors with high-efficiency solutions such as Dyneo+.

The expected results are substantial, with annual energy savings exceeding 1 million euros and a carbon emission reduction of over 10,000 tonnes by 2026.

  • A territorial and global approach

This plan is being implemented thanks to the mobilization of the CSR(5), Energy and EHS(6) teams at the sites involved, and with the support of regional industrial partners. Other production sites, including Orléans, Lyon, Belfort and Pau, have joined the effort to strengthen its impact and coordinate sustainable practices. These actions contribute to the global sustainability strategy of carbon-neutral operations for Nidec Group.

ADEME(1): The French Agency for Ecological Transition. Participates in the construction of national and local policies for ecological transition. DREETS(2): Regional Directorates for the Economy, Employment, Labor and Solidarity. Fonds Chaleur(3): Financial and technical support system for the development of renewable heat and cooling production, managed by ADEME. DREAL(4): Regional Directorate for the Environment, Planning and Housing. CSR(5): Corporate Social Responsibility EHS(6): Environmental Health and Safety.

About the PEP ecopassport® program

The PEP (Product Environmental Profile) registered under the PEP ecopassport® Program is a type III environmental declaration as defined by ISO 14025. It is specific to electrical, electronic and HVAC equipment. The PEP provides reliable information on the contribution of electrical, electronic and HVAC equipment to environmental impact, notably through the provision of quantified, multi-criteria environmental data derived from a life-cycle analysis.

To guarantee their reliability, the ecopassport® PEP Program has established transparent and rigorous procedures enabling companies to publish and have verified PEPs that comply with international best practice. www.pep-ecopassport.org/fr/
