Educational Game on Blood Typing Wins 2012 Best Game Category

The Blood Typing Game (http://www.nobelprize.org/bloodtyping), based on the 1930 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for the discovery of blood groups, was awarded the 2012 Winner in the Best Game Category from the Swedish Learning Awards on March 29. This unique game is designed to help students ages 14-17 to distinguish between different blood types by administering virtual blood transfusions to patients. Since February 2012, the game has had 200,000 visits.

The jury’s motivation from the Swedish Learning Awards reads, “The winner has created a minimalistic but at the same time, a captivating graphic design which grabs the user’s curiosity. The playful teaching method in this well thought out production creates a desire to learn how one determines blood types, their differences and which ones are compatible for blood transfusions.

Karin Svanholm, Concept Developer of The Blood Typing Game, commented: “We are delighted to be recognized and awarded the title of the ‘Best Game’ category as educational gaming is an important way to reach out to a young audience about the Nobel Prize awarded achievements.”
