Shazam Continues Its Support of (RED) on World AIDS Day

London, UK – 1 December, 2011 - Shazam®, the world’s leading mobile discovery company, today announced that it is reducing the price of its Special Edition (SHAZAM)RED App on iPhone and iPod touch to $1.99/£1.49/€ 1.59 in recognition of World AIDS Day and will donate 100% of its profits to The Global Fund.  Shazam launched (SHAZAM)RED in 2009 as part of its partnership with (RED) in support of its goal to fight AIDS and help deliver an AIDS Free Generation by 2015.

We at Shazam are proud to play an active role as a (RED) partner in this year’s World AIDS Day campaign ‘The beginning of the end of AIDS starts with you’,” said Andrew Fisher, Shazam CEO.  “It's easy for everyone to make a difference in someone's life by simply buying a (RED) product, including downloading the (SHAZAM)RED App on itunes, so we hope that everyone will join the fight for an AIDS Free Generation by 2015.

The first of December is World AIDS Day, an opportunity to raise awareness of the disease and promote fundraising to support AIDS prevention, treatment and education.  Every day 1,000 babies are born with HIV.  By 2015, that number can be near zero. With the global economy in crisis, support for programs like the Global Fund is more important than ever.  As a Special Edition (PRODUCT)RED partner, Shazam is supporting World AIDS Day by:

  • Reducing the cost of its (SHAZAM)RED App to $1.99/£1.49/€ 1.59 December 1-7 and donating 100% of the profits to the Global Fund;
  • Promoting (RED) and One’s (2015)QUILT which represents the voices and pledges of people from around the world fighting for the beginning of the end of AIDS.  When people add a pledge of action to the (2015)QUILT they will receive a choice of one of the six (RED) songs by The Killers for free as a thank you and are invited to buy the other singles or the exclusive EP on iTunes, with proceeds going to fight AIDS.

For people who don’t have the (SHAZAM)RED App, they can download it from the iTunes App Store.  (SHAZAM)RED offers people the same great premium service as in Encore, including unlimited tagging, LyricPlay, Shazam Friends, YouTube videos, and tour information.  The difference is that, through the (SHAZAM)RED App, you can make a positive difference to people’s lives.
