Shazam the “12-12-12 Concert for Sandy Relief” to Donate and Make a Difference

New York, NY –December 10, 2012 - Shazam®, the world’s leading media engagement company, today announces that viewers can use the Shazam App to make a donation when they watch Wednesday’s broadcast of the Concert for Sandy Relief.  The concert is on Wednesday, December 12th, at 7:30 p.m. EST on more than 61 channels and 14 streaming sites around the world.  The line-up includes New York and New Jersey natives like Billy Joel, Alicia Keys, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, and Jon Bon Jovi as well as other legendary performers like Sir Paul McCartney, The Who, Roger Waters, Dave Grohl, Chris Martin, Kanye West, Eddie Vedder and other leading artists.

People all over the world were affected by the news and images of the people who lost so much and were so significantly impacted by Hurricane Sandy. This benefit concert is an opportunity to make a difference in thousands of people’s lives,” said CEO, Andrew Fisher.  “Shazam is honored to donate all Shazam proceeds from music sales during the concert to help people in the Tri-State area to rebuild after this devastating storm,”

More than 80 million music fans in the US and 250 million around the world who have Shazam installed on their smartphones or tablets will be able to use the app anytime during this historic event to make a donation to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy.  When people use Shazam, they can either donate directly to the Robin Hood Foundation Relief Fund at a site designed for mobile devices, or donate with a phone call.  Additionally, they will also be able to:

  • Tag the performers for links to purchase their music on iTunes and Amazon, so they can easily purchase and add to their music library.  Shazam will donate all proceeds from music sold during the concert to the Robin Hood Foundation Relief Fund to help victims of Hurricane Sandy.
  • Keep track of the artists and songs performed, ensuring they don’t miss a minute of the action;
  • Follow the conversation on social media with insider twitter feeds.

All donations from the 12-12-12 event will go to the Robin Hood Foundation Relief Fund, which was reactivated for the first time since the September 11 aftermath.  The Fund will help the Tri-State area recover from Hurricane Sandy by helping with housing, food and funds to those most in need.

Recently, Shazam announced that it has expanded its Shazam for TV second-screen service in the U.S. to support TV programming on any channel, anytime of day, making Shazam a “TV companion app.”  The core service is presented by Samsung through December 2012
