Djurgården: Famous Oaxen restaurant moves to an old shipyard

Five consecutive years on the list of the "World's 50 Best Restaurants" and countless awards in Sweden have made Oaxen one of the foremost restaurants in Stockholm, despite its out-of-the-way location far out in the archipelago. Magnus Ek is the leading man when it comes to innovative cuisine focused on local ingredients.  The restaurateur couple Magnus and Agneta will be opening a new restaurant in an old shipyard on Djurgården in the spring/summer of 2013. Oaxen Krog & Slip opens May 7, 2013.

The rustic bistro will seat 76 guests and the smaller fine dining restaurant will accommodate up to 32 people. The large picture windows facing the water provides a striking view. From a outdoor deck in two levels, will seat another 40 people and an additional 60 people in the harbour during the summer. The new premises at Beckholmsbron is originally part of the old shipyard in corrugated tin dating back in 1735. The new building is almost a replica of the old shed. The interior will also tie in with the shipyard environment.

The beautiful ship, Prince van Orangiën, has moved from Oaxen to Djurgården and will remain in operation as a hotel. For a taste of what's to come in the new restaurant, visit the Oaxen Skafferi store on Mariatorget, Södermalm.
