Music, food, dance - 13 festivals in Stockholm this summer

Food, culture and music. The summer in begins with the culinary festival Smaka på Stockholm in Kungsträdgården and the Electronica festival Summerburst, and concludes in August with Kulturfestivalen, a large free outdoor festival for the entire family.  2013 is truely the year of music and events. With in all NINE Music events, with two brand new music festivals this year. Here are 13 reasons to visit Stockholm this summer.

DansDakar
Large music festival in the Royal National City Park at Stockholm University. DJ set with Justice, Pendulum DJ Set & Verse, Rebecca & Fiona, Mayka, Gesaffelstein, Plapla Pinky, Owl Vision, Serkan Denizer, Fritjof & Pikanen. When: June 1, www.dansdakar.se

Stockholm Early Music Festival
A festival with Baroque, Renaissance and Medieval music in Gamla Stan. When: June 4–9. www.semf.se

NEW! Hultsfredsfestivalen
One of Sweden’s signature pop and rock festivals moves to Stockholm and STOXA in Sigtuna. Born in 1986 and still going strong. 60 bands are already signed up. Among them Arctic Monkey, Imagine Dragons, ParachuteYouth, Knife Party, Shout out Louds and many more. When: June 13-15.www.hultsfredsfestivalen.se

Summerburst
An electro festival at Stockholm Stadium in the Royal National City Park. Among this year's performers are Steve Angelo and Sebastian Ingrosso from Swedish House Mafia, Steve Aoki, Alesso, Otto Knows, Albin Myers and Hardwell. When: June 14-15. www.summerburst.se

NEW! WWDIS Summer feast 2013
The club organizer WWDIS (What We Do Is Secret) and Luger arranges a new summer music party in Stockholm at Färgfabriken. Death from above 1979, King Khan & The Shrines, Moon Duo, I Break Horses, Goat, Two Gallants, White Fence among the performers. When: 9 July. www.wwdis.se

Stockholm Music & Arts
World-famous performing artist Prince, First Aid Kit and Rodriguez, renowned from the Oscar-winning film “Searching for Sugar Man”, are set to appear in the summer's top festival on Skeppsholmen in the Royal National City Park. When: August 2–4. www.stockholmmusicandarts.com

Stockholm Gospel Choir Festival
This popular gospel festival is being held for the 25th consecutive year with 1,000 participants from far and wide. Many free concerts. Don't miss the fantastic choir manifestation at Sergelstorg on Saturday. When: August 23-25: www.stockholmgospel.se

Baltic Sea Festival - Östersjöfestivalen

Large pop festival at Eriksdalsbadet, Södermalm. When: August 30-31,  www.popaganda.se


Food festival

Smaka på Stockholm (restaurant festival) – To start things off, the Kungsträdgården city park is transformed into a gigantic restaurant with food from all corners of the world.

Culture festivals

Stockholm Street Festival – Magic, acrobatics and exceptional talent. Street performers appearing at the Stockholm Street Festival in Kungsträdgården are many of the world's top street performers.

Stockholm Pride – Gay pride festival with a big parade through the city on Saturday and a solid seminar program. When: July 30–August 3, www.stockholmpride.org

Kulturfestivalen - Stockholm Culture Festival
For the eighth year running, Sergels torg will be the stage for street artists, music and dance. The legendary Hugh Masekela and the talented young singer and guitarist Bombino will start off the festival. The youth festival Ung08 will be underway at the same time in Kungsträdgården.
