New low-cost hotel group opens in Stockholm

In May Scandic will open a new low price hotel chain, focused on city locations, HTL. The first two hotels will open in Stockholm. The concept is based on reservation and payment online, check-in and check-out with mobile phone, space efficiency in combination with a high design factor. The room rate will be around SEK 700.

In May 2014, the  first HTL-hotel will open on Kungsgatan in Stockholm, with 275 rooms. An additional hotel will open later on Upplandsgatan next to Scandic Norra Bantorget, with 130 rooms. Scandic is now looking for some 20 additional addresses in all the the Nordic cities.

 - We are focusing on former office spaces, addresses we know are currently vacancies, says Anders Ehrling, CEO of Scandic Hotels to Besöksliv

HTL is a play with the word hotel. The concept is all about stripping away all things unnecessary, in this case the letters o and e. HTL will be operated in a sister company of Scandic. The CEO of the new hotel will be Joachim Högefjord, which already works in Scandic. Chairman of the company is Martin Creydt, presently Scandic's business development manager.
