Yanmar Announces the Revival of Yanmar Racing

Osaka, Japan (September 13, 2018) – Yanmar has announced the revival of its yacht racing team, Yanmar Racing. The team participates in the International Dragon Class, one of the most prestigious and exciting keel boat competitions in competitive yachting, with a distinguished history that dates back to the first designs crafted in Norway in 1928.

Yanmar has long supported mariners, providing solutions with a distinctive combination of experience and innovation, and hopes to deepen its understanding of recreational marine activities through its association with the Dragon Class, in pursuit of the company’s Brand Statement: A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE.

The team, which like its owner Yanmar, revels in the spirit of challenge, is led by America’s Cup veteran and 4-time World Match Racing Tour Champion, Peter Gilmour. Joining him to make up the tight-knit team is Sam Gilmour, a talented and highly-rated young sailor who already has impressive results on the World Match Racing Tour (WMRT). Rounding out the team is Yasuhiro Yaji, a sailor with a depth of match racing experience few can equal, and team director of Yanmar Racing from 2008 to 2013. Together, the team hopes to achieve greatness in the International Dragon Class Regatta.

“We are excited to participate in the International Dragon Class as Yanmar Racing,” said Peter Gilmour. “This is proof of how deeply Yanmar is committed to marine sport and recreational activities.”

Yanmar has long provided a wide range of products and services for life at sea to people the world over. With our ongoing development of cutting-edge technology through long-earned experience, Yanmar seeks to find a way to share in the joy and delight of the sea with people all over the world through marine sports.
