Press release —
YANMAR Launches “A SYMBIOSIS VILLAGE by YANMAR” Project in Osaka for Sustainable Community Development
Osaka, Japan (June 29, 2026) — Yanmar Symbiosis Co., Ltd., a group company of Yanmar Holdings Co., Ltd., will assume management of the Takayama Community Center in Toyono Town, Osaka, starting July 1, 2026. The center is currently undergoing extensive renovations to serve as the social hub for a new initiative aimed at bridging urban and rural communities to solve pressing local challenges. The fully transformed site will officially launch in early 2027 as "A SYMBIOSIS VILLAGE by YANMAR."
Housed in the former Takayama Elementary School and Kindergarten, the community center has long been a beloved local gathering space. Located just a 40-minute drive from central Osaka, the site is surrounded by abundant natural beauty, scenic terraced rice paddies, and a rich history tied to the 16th-century Christian Daimyo (feudal lord), Takayama Ukon. Beyond its role as a social hub, the facility acts as critical safety infrastructure for the region, serving as a designated disaster evacuation shelter and an emergency landing site for medical helicopters.
Yanmar has cultivated a strong relationship with the Toyono community over the years, most notably by operating hands-on educational farms in the Takayama area. On March 31, 2026, the company signed a comprehensive partnership agreement aimed at addressing local challenges. Now, to help the region tackle complex challenges such as an aging population, a declining birthrate, and an increase in abandoned farmland, Yanmar is bringing its cutting-edge technologies and expertise in food and energy to the forefront. By comprehensively renovating the former school and activating its surrounding grounds, the project aims to breathe new life into the local community.
Moving forward, the Yanmar Group will leverage its deep expertise in agrivoltaics (solar sharing), regenerative agriculture, and land-based aquaculture to create sustainable models utilizing local resources. The project will roll out phased initiatives focused on community engagement, hands-on learning, and sustainable food production. Upcoming facilities will include cultural exhibition areas, woodworking and farming workshops, cafes, retail spaces, and a dedicated school designed to cultivate the next generation of agricultural innovators.
