Yanmar Sunset Marina Becomes the First Lake Marina in Asia to Receive Blue Flag Certification

Yanmar Sunset Marina, operated by Yanmar Corporation, a group company of Yanmar Holdings Co., Ltd., has become the first lake marina in Asia to receive the prestigious “Blue Flag” certification. The Blue Flag is an international environmental certification for beaches, marinas, and tourism boats managed by the Denmark-based international NGO, the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). To achieve the certification, stringent standards regarding environmental education, management systems, and other criteria must be met.

Yanmar Sunset Marina, located in Moriyama City, Shiga Prefecture, is a resort facility that combines a clubhouse and a hotel. The marina has undertaken several initiatives to minimize its environmental impact, including the use of solar power generation systems and effective wastewater and sewage treatment management. Additionally, it has installed the Yanmar Group's Bio-composter YC100, which transforms food waste from its restaurant and aquatic plants collected from the marina into compost. This compost is then used to grow vegetables that are served back at the restaurant, creating a sustainable, circular resource cycle.

Looking ahead, Yanmar Sunset Marina aims to continue leveraging the natural environment of Lake Biwa, offering high-quality waterfront activities that allow guests to fully enjoy the grandeur of Lake Biwa's nature and marine activities.
