The Newly Revamped Winter Garden – Ultra-Modern Technology in a Historic Environment

Grand Hôtel is delighted to present its newly revamped Vinterträdgården (Winter Garden) – a venue of grandiose versatility. During the summer, this classic event space, in the heart of downtown Stockholm, has been updated to create Sweden’s most modern event and conference venue. Now, the Winter Garden offers unique, leading-edge event experiences thanks to a custom-built audio and lighting concept, flexible stage solutions, state-of-the-art stage rigging technology as well as a 1000 m2 projection surface with 360° video mapping.

The Grand Hôtel’s Winter Garden was built in the early 1900s, at which time the managing director of the hotel Wilhelmina Skogh wished to create an evergreen indoor garden to compensate for the Swedish chill outside. Since then, celebrities and everyday bon-vivants have met and mingled in this magnificent space at parties, events and conferences. Following a major modernization, the Winter Garden is now being presented in its new high-tech grandeur.

While preserving its heritage-listed environment, a change of milieu at the Grand Hôtel’s Winter Garden is just a push of a button away. New audio and lighting solutions, projection surfaces with 360° video mapping covering an entire 1000 m2, along with a dedicated event designer provide clients with the opportunity to create specially designed event concepts and environments for both small- and large-scale events.

The Winter Garden is a fantastic space for all types of functions – a historic environment accommodating top-modern event experiences. With these new technological capabilities, the only limit is one’s own imagination,” says Pia Djupmark, CEO of the Grand Hôtel. “Our aim now is to help customers – new and old – to become even more creative in their event planning,”

Another notable enhancement is the ceiling of the Winter Garden, now equipped with technology that creates the illusion of daylight – a nostalgic nod back to a time when one could stroll around the indoor garden under the Winter Garden’s glass roof. Furthermore, the new single-level floor, in combination with the very latest in advanced rigging systems makes it easier to set up and dismantle complex productions. With all these technological advancements, the Grand Hôtel has further raised the bar at the Winter Garden, making it Sweden’s most modern event location.

The Winter Garden has a total area of 800 m2, accommodating from 120 to 800 people. The modernization was carried out in part with Mediatec, one of Sweden’s leading full-service partners for entertainment and event technology. One of the first to explore the Winter Garden’s new potential is the artist Niklas Strömstedt, who is hosting the Grand Hotel’s traditional Christmas show this year.
