Monja, aka @takemetoalaska_ , hit the road again this summer, seeking soul-stirring landscapes and peak mountaineering experiences in the Alps. She kicked off the journey on the Swiss side, where she ventured up Aroser Rothorn, the highest mountain in the Plessur Alps, before wandering onwards to explore more mountain trails. Here are her field notes from Switzerland⤵
AROSER ROTHORN, 2,980 m
“ It’s a demanding hike in the Canton Graubünden that offers fantastic views. Without a doubt, this was the perfect kickoff for this year’s journey through the Alps. I couldn’t be happier, knowing I will be spending the next weeks outside in the mountains every day.”
SCOPI, 3,190 m
“Scopi is a mountain in the Lepontine Alps, right on the border between the cantons of Ticino and Graubünden. The hike begins at Lai da Sontga Maria, with approximately 1,300 meters of elevation to be conquered before reaching the summit. The trail is consistently steep, but never particularly difficult. From the top, you’re rewarded with a breathtaking 360-degree panorama of the surrounding peaks.”
HEJI ZWÄCHTE, 3,086 m
“This hidden gem of a mountain offers an incredible panorama right at the gateway to the high Bernese Alps. With 1,730 meters of elevation gain, the hike was quite a workout, especially after all the tours I’d done the days before. On the way, you pass the little Öuchummseewji Lake, perfect for a quick dip to cool down. I didn’t encounter a single person on the trail, which made the experience even better.”
TÄLLISTOCK, 2,861 m
“On my rest day, I decided to hike up to Tällistock. Starting from the Furka Pass at 2,300 meters, it’s a relatively short hike that rewards you with stunning views of the Rhone Glacier, Lake Grimsel, and the wide Obergoms valley.”
