Nationalmuseum in Stockholm
The Danish Golden Age
February 28 – July 21, 2019
This summer, Nationalmuseum will present The Danish Golden Age, an exhibition of the very best of Danish painting from 1800 to 1864. During the Danish Golden Age, art that combined equal parts magical and realistic imagery grew out of a society marked by great upheaval. In these works, a parallel universe emerged in which everyday misery was highlighted by its very absence. Drawing inspiration from their immediate surroundings, artists created irresistible images that invite the viewer to imagine themselves in another place, yet to find fascination in the virtually surreal attention to detail. Around 325 works are presented in the exhibition, and featured artists include Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg, Christen Købke, Martinus Rørbye, Constantin Hansen, Peter Christian Skovgaard, Frederik Sødring, Johan Thomas Lundbye and Wilhelm Marstrand.

Finn Juhl: Architectural Furniture Designer
March 14 – September 22, 2019
This exhibition presents work by the Danish architect and furniture designer Finn Juhl. One of the most influential Scandinavian furniture designers of the 1940s, 50s, and 60s is presented through an exclusive selection of furniture, artwork and art handicraft. The furniture and furnishings on display comes from Finn Juhl’s home in Ordrup, outside Copenhagen, which he designed and decorated for himself in 1942. The exhibition is a collaboration with Ordrupgaard, Copenhagen.

Nationalmuseum Jamtli in Östersund
From Dawn till Dusk – Nordic Art Around the Turn of the Century 1900
May 28 – April 19, 2020
The exhibition addresses the artistic development that occurred in the Nordic countries around the turn of the last century. Many of the most talented students travelled abroad. Far from the artificial pictorial world of history painting, they were able to turn their gaze towards reality instead, and to paint it with the same empathy and earnestness. Around 1890, there was a call for the artists to return home to depict their own countries in more clearly defined, national Nordic art. In Swedish painting from the period, it is possible to describe the development within painting as being like the themes going from dawn to dusk and day to night. The exhibition displays approximately 130 works by Eugène Jansson, Eva Bonnier, Helmer Osslund, Carl Wilhelmson, Elsa Beskow, Anders Zorn and Bruno Liljefors, among others.

Nationalmuseum at Läckö Castle
Expressions In glass
June 8 – August 25, 2019
Every summer, Nationalmuseum arranges a special exhibition at Läckö Castle. This summer, it will feature unique works of art in glass by around 50 artists included in Nationalmuseum's extensive collection of modern glass art from 1960 onwards. Swedish glass art has been flourishing for over a hundred years and has sometimes received great international accolades. The exhibition traces the development of this art form, all the way up to showing how today's glass designers are exploring new creative methods. The featured artists who are still living have been asked to formulate their thoughts into words.
